When you make your entrance at the wedding ceremony, your bouquet will be the very first thing your guests will see. Although you may not think it, the shape & size of your bouquet has a very important effect on your whole look, get it wrong & your flowers will either be overwhelming or totally insignificant.Your bouquet should be thought of as another accessory to your wedding outfit. Make sure you describe to your florist the style of your dress & the fabric it is made of. If you have a picture or one of a similar dress take it with you to show them. With this information your florist will be able to determine the appropriate shape & size for you.
There are generally three main shapes for a bride’s bouquet, but there are also two other versions to consider. All of these are described in detail below.
A Round Bouquet
Currently the most popular bouquet shape, which can be hand tied or wired to keep it’s shape. They are the easiest to hold with the stems wrapped with co-ordinating ribbon. This style of bouquet is the easiest to keep fresh as you will be able to stand it in water when you reach your reception. The size of the round bouquet will vary but it does suit most brides & most dresses. However, if you are petite or wearing a slim dress, avoid a large version.
Teardrop Bouquet
A flattering shape for most brides. The teardrop combines a posy at the top with a cascade of foliage falling to a point at the bottom. This style works well as it isn’t top heavy & the tapered shape co-ordinates with most dress styles.
Shower Bouquet
Shower bouquet’s are similar in shape to the teardrop although they tend to be larger & trail to a point with a single flower at the bottom. This shape is very dramatic & works best with equally dramatic dresses.
Posy
Posies are a popular choice for bridesmaids as they are smaller versions of round bouquets & can be co-ordinated perfectly with the bride’s bouquet. If you wedding is informal then a posy may be a preferred choice.
Single Flowers
A contemporary look can be achieved by just carrying one flower or a group of three. This is particularly effect with architectural flowers such as calla lilies with their elegant flowers & long stems. This is also the cheapest option!
